origins of the members of Generation Country span from the
Atlantic Ocean to the Rocky Mountains with a few stops in
For Len Wallace, it started out as a "me
and my guitar" show for the Window on the West stage
in 2013 and ended up being a dynamic 6 piece traditional
country band known as Generation Country.
Lennie always knew what he wanted in a
band, that unique country sound, amazing harmony, pedal
steel guitar and musicians that grew up on Hank Williams,
Ray Price and Merle Haggard. When he found them, Generation
Country was born. It's taken a long time to find that pure
country sound that he's always looked for. .......which,
he affirms, probably would not have happened if he hadn't
met his wife, Cyndi.
He came from a small town outside of Antigonish
N.S. grew up on country and always wanted to be on stage,
came out west and made it happen. Playing rodeos, bars,
legions, special events.... anyplace where there's a stage
and a mic!
The genre's always been country music that
Cyndi loves best. That traditional stuff that she heard
her Manitoba Mom sing as she hung clothes out on the clothesline,
or her brother sing when she'd ride with him in the tractor
before she was old enough to go to school. Before she was
even a teenager, she fell in love with the Everly Brothers,
the Gatlin Brothers and the Bellamy Brothers, not realizing
that by "singing with the one that sang higher"
she was accidently learning the harmony that would be the
pathway to many open doors in the music scene...........and
eventually life itself.
In her early 20's, with a psychiatric nursing
degree in hand, she joined a band and hit the road! (after
the family quit shaking their heads, they began tapping
their toes along with her). Raising a child, music, and
nursing is a busy life, and then she was asked to postpone
a trip back home to Manitoba to sing harmony with a guy
who had a Window on the West spot on the very last day of
Stampede 2013. A traditional country singer, stand up bass,
steel guitar? "I'm in!!" Not long after that,
the original 4 members grew into the 6-piece band of Generation
Country. And that bit about "life itself"? And
that traditional country singer? His name is Len Wallace,
her husband as of August 2014.
